Frequently asked questions

STANDARD

1. Are your containers downgraded?

NO, under no circumstances will you receive a downgraded container. This category of container does not fall within our quality specifications.

We only offer CWO quality second-hand containers, and this is reflected in a number of compulsory inspection points:

– The container is watertight without perforation (closed doors = dark night)

– The cremone bolts (container closing bars) are in good condition,

– Door seals (2-lip) are in perfect condition,

– Doors open and close normally,

– The container is CSC-certified with its plate

2. How much does a used container cost?

Used container prices vary widely.

They follow a complex logic, depending on port availability and the number of containers returned.

You can consult our prices directly on our website.

You can also request a quote on our “Request a quote” page.

3. Where do used shipping containers come from?

Used containers are rental fleets. At the end of the contract (between 12 and 13 years), we pick them up directly from the port.

But be careful, we make a scrupulous selection to take only first-rate containers. At CONTAINERS EXPRESS MARKET, this is what we call the CWO category (for Cargo Worthy).

Depending on the period, containers are available in the UK, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Germany.

4. Do you have last trip containers?

Yes, but be careful with this category of container, which we do not guarantee to be watertight, as it does not fit into our quality specifications.

This type of container is often very worn.

5. Can I see the containers?

On request, we’ll take care of everything.

Containers are by nature very secure. Its double door makes it a very good barrier against theft. It delays break-ins.

You can also padlock your container, as each door has a padlock slot.

Despite this, we advise you to secure your container as much as possible with our special container padlocks:

– BARLOCK: the most compact padlock in our range

– SECUPLUS: the best-selling padlock in our range (7.5kg stainless steel)

– SECURLOCK: CONTAINERS EXPRESS MARKET’s most robust padlock. High-security removable padlock cover.

8. What is a shipping container made of?

The container is made from CORTEN steel.

CORTEN has an important advantage: it is a self-patinated steel with surface corrosion. It is used in maritime transport for its physical resistance to atmospheric conditions.

In other words, the rust it develops provides protection against the elements.

It has been used in construction for many years, as well as in modern architecture.

It’s an alloy of copper, phosphorus, nickel and chromium.

9. What is a first trip container?

A first trip container (or new shipping container) is a container that arrives directly from China (where it was manufactured). It has been filled once (stuffing) and then unloaded (unstuffing) once it arrives at its port of destination. It is then stored before being sold.

These containers are in perfect condition, but may still show signs of use.

10. Where are shipping containers made?

There’s no mystery to this question. Without exception, all shipping containers are made in China.

But beware, they follow their ISO construction standards and are inspected throughout the manufacturing process.

13. Why choose a CONTAINERS EXPRESS MARKET container?

Because with us, you can be sure of receiving a container that meets our quality criteria.

We follow our commitments from A to Z.

Offering a quality container is a religion with us. YOU are at the heart of our relationship.

14. What’s the difference with a storage container?

It’s all the same! Only the shape, dimensions and appearance are identical.

These are not the same containers. The storage container is manufactured in Eastern Europe and does not follow the ISO standard for maritime containers.

All the opposites, thickness of sheet metal, paint and flooring. The construction materials are different (conventional steel, 23 mm single plywood floor).

We offer these containers as an alternative to sea containers for customers wishing to store simple, light goods.

15. What is the purpose of the CSC plate on a container?

The CSC plate (or CSC plate) on a shipping container is a first guarantee of quality. But it’s not enough for our specifications.

It indicates the container’s manufacturer, year of manufacture and other references.

16. Can I collect the containers from the depot?

Of course you can. There’s no obligation at CONTAINERS EXPRESS MARKET. You’re free to choose what’s best for you.

No extra charges, just the price of the container.

That’s CONTAINERS EXPRESS MARKET quality.

17. Why do you clear containers through customs?

Clearing a container through customs allows it to be made French. When they’re in port, they’re considered a means of transport, not a commodity.

Clearing our containers allows us to sell them as our own unique merchandise. It’s an act that pays off.

The cost of customs clearance is included in the price of the container.

18. In what condition are your used containers?

Our used containers are generally about ten years old.

The paintwork is original. They are very well maintained throughout their life.

They have rust marks and dents.

Nevertheless, they are perfectly air- and light-tight.

19. Do we need planning permission for a container?

Since January 1, 2012, all you need is a prior declaration of works up to 40 m2.

In all cases, we strongly advise you to contact your local council.

You can find all container dimensions on our website.

20. Do I need to lay a screed?

Not at all! Concrete blocks at each corner of the container are all you need.

Ask us for our plans!

21. What can I lay the container on?

A stable surface is recommended.

Gravel, concrete, limestone, etc.

This doesn’t prevent you from laying it on grass, as long as the ground is stable and level (the most important thing).

22. Are your containers repainted?

Our containers are original and perfectly maintained. This includes painting.

If the aesthetic aspect of the container is important to you, we can repaint it (service not included) in your colors.

Quite simple and basic! Your container is maintained throughout its life as a means of transport.

Regular cleaning with water helps prevent moss from setting in, and preserves its exterior appearance. We have a special cleaning product for containers.

You can also grease the bolts once a year to ensure easier opening and closing.

27. Do you sell spare parts?

Yes, we can supply all container parts. It doesn’t matter whether the container comes from CONTAINERS EXPRESS MARKET or elsewhere.

Yes and no. Containers have standard dimensions (ISO NORM). Only the length changes.

A standard 20-foot dry container: 6 x 2.45 x 2.6 m (length x width x height).

A standard 40-foot dry container: 12 x 2.45 x 2.6 m (Length x Width x Height)

Then, depending on the variation, only the width will change:

– High Cube +30 cm height

– Pallet Wide +10 cm width

etc.

29. What is the structure of a standard shipping container?

The shipping container is entirely welded. Its structure is self-supporting.

In other words, its rigidity is ensured by its shape.

30. What does DRY container mean?

Simply put, it means DRY. It’s a standard maritime container.

10-foot, 20-foot and 40-foot High Cube containers can be DRY, but also REEFER (refrigerated).

REEFER CONTAINER

1. What is a REEFER? or reefer container?

The REEFER container is a refrigerated container, cold room container or freezer container.

Its (electric) refrigeration unit can produce negative cold at -25° or positive cold at +25°.

The interior of a maritime refrigerated container is made of stainless steel (walls and ceiling), with an aluminum floor (T-shaped rail).

To find out more about a reefer container, please refer to our product sheets.

2. What refrigerant gas is used in the refrigeration units of a reefer container?

The gas we use is R 134 A.

This is the same gas used in your car air-conditioning system or refrigerator.

Why this gas? Firstly, because it’s approved until 2020, and secondly, because it can generate negative and positive cold.

3. How is a refrigerated container structured?

The container is entirely welded. Its structure is self-supporting.

In other words, its rigidity is ensured by its shape. A maritime container is built with noble materials such as CORTEN (steel alloy), which is highly resistant to corrosion, and the interior panels are made entirely of stainless steel (raw or painted).

4. What is the purpose of the rails or floor of a refrigerated container?

Rails play a vital role in maintaining temperature.

They act as a cold channel to ensure an even temperature throughout the container. They are made of aluminum to prevent freezing and make the floor slippery.

5. How does a refrigerated container cooling unit work?

The REEFER refrigerated container produces cold with an electric unit.

We can also supply it with a stand-alone generator (GENSET Container) which runs on an internal combustion engine like a container generator. They are fitted with a large-capacity tank for extended autonomy.

6. How powerful is a refrigerated container?

The average power rating of a REEFER sea container refrigeration unit is 12 kW (supplier data).

For more information, consult the refrigerated container data sheet.

7. What is the energy consumption of a refrigerated container?

The power consumption of a refrigerated shipping container varies according to the set temperature. The average consumption of a used container varies from 9 A/h to 11 A/h, actual consumption in operation.

YES. With us, transportation remains very flexible, and this is an important point not to be overlooked. Our trucks are equipped with cranes so that containers can be unloaded within a reasonable radius (around 5-6 meters) of the truck.
